Biography of Dr. Cynthia Jones Pitts
Cynthia is a graduate of Wofford College in 1989, and Converse College in 1991 and 1996. Cynthia earned a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Clemson University in 2003 and is employed as the coordinator for the Upper Savannah Regional Education Center, serving Greenwood, Laurens, Edgefield, Abbeville, McCormick, Newberry and Saluda Counties. Cynthia has been a public school administrator 4K through 12th grade, worked at the District Office level as a coordinator of Math, Science and Gifted Curriculum and Instruction and has taught math and science at the middle school level. Cynthia served as Director of Career and Technology Education for Clinton High School for the previous two years. She holds a teaching certification in elementary education, special education, gifted education and elementary and secondary administration. Cynthia is currently enrolled at Piedmont Tech in the Facilitating Career Development course and will receive national career pathways certification through the National Career Pathways and National Tech Prep Network in October.
Research includes a study on the effectiveness of school principals’ leadership behaviors in both effective and ineffective schools in South Carolina. Training includes High Schools That Work.
Cynthia is a new member of the Greenwood Rotary Club, and serves on the Greenwood and Laurens County Chamber Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA) subcommittees and on the Abbeville Superintendent’s Advisory Council. She is on the Board of Directors for the Career and Technology Educators Association.
Cynthia lives in Clinton with her husband, David, Assistant Superintendent of Laurens School District 56 and her two children, Anna Claire, six, and Davidson, three.
